Something Is Very Wrong With This Ad

Milan is famous for being the designer fashion capital of the world.

Versace, Gucci, Giorgio Armani, Prada, Dolce & Gabanna, Kanina, Tualampa. You name it, you got it.
Naturally, there are heaps of billboard ads from all the famous fashion houses adorning the walls of the buildings around here. The best thing about these ads is that they are all very eye-catching, because more often than not they employ some of the best supermodels in the world.

Like this Dolce & Gabanna ad I saw at the Milan airport.
At first glance, this seems like a pretty typical ad for a fashion label.

You got a couple of hot chicks in the centre of attention, having fun, dancing together with some other equally hot guys. All the girls are dressed in nice dresses. All the guys are dressed in fine suits. All of them looking like a million bucks.
Everything looks all fine and dandy like a normal party scene, but did you see something SERIOUSLY wrong with this ad?

Why is that guy DANCING IN HIS UNDIES next to a girl?
In other parts of the world, his arse would be locked in jail for sexual harrassment ok!

I’m slowly getting the fitness routine back into my life after being absent from the gym for the past 2 months due to heavy travel. April’s travel schedule is relatively much lighter compared to February and March. Even so, I still gotta hop on a plane out of Kuching every week.

You’re caught in a dangerous catch-22 here Kenny. Your present activities, which can be attributed to your blogging fame, is adversely affecting the quality of your blog. Be careful where you’re going with this…

  3. oh come on… there’s nothing wrong with that ad… no big deal right – it’s milan… it’s not like that ad was in malaysia, then people would of made it a big deal!

  4. have anyone notice wad he wrote
    quote from above:

where in the world kanina came from? lol

  5. Re: dupi
It’s a joke by Kennysia…Prada, Dolce & Gabanna, Kanina and Tualampa all rhymes WAHAHA
If brand names such as Kanina and Tualampa exist, i think they’ll sell even better then the other two MUAHAHAHA….jokin’ 😉

  6. Well… I think even if the guy is not wearing anything, and still dancing beside those gals… I think it won’t be much of a big issue over there. But if the same situation happens in Malaysia. Wow… May god bless him

  7. It’s a D&G ad showing off their clothing line, isn’t it? I really don’t see what is wrong with the ad…even if it appears in M’sia.
    Cheers!

  8. Quite a disappointing post compared to the usual standard. Nothing that unusual about the advertising.
I was looking at the pictures for a third nipple or for unusually shaped genitalia, you know, the type that “hang like sleeve of wizard” :p LOL

  9. Also notice the lack of “colour” among the models . . .
Just like the local carlsberg ad from a few years ago where an international cast of models (orientals, africans to blonde caucasians) were whistling a hugely irritating tune in a bar. Note that Carlsberg did NOT include its largest group of customers in the ad – the INDIANS!

  10. This is one of your worst blog.. like nothing to write about liaoz.. come on.. surely you are better than that.

  11. you must have run out of idea for the ur blog. This is the most lame blog u ever wrote. seriously. not funny at all.

  13. I’ve seen tonnes of ads like that throughout my stay in UK and Europe. No big deal. Just don’t do that in M’sia or u’ll get JAIS or JAKIM coming for u..
btw, did u watch TV in hotel in Rome? The 1 i was staying, they have pay TV which doesn’t prompt for your permission and charge when u check out. Darn, most of us fell for the trap!

  14. a wild party with young under dressed people…it looks pretty typical to me….jeez i thought that an Lv bag was spotted in a D&G ad..now thats something out of the ordinary..

  15. you’re just jealous of his hawt body. what’s wrong with dancing half naked? this an ad not like the newspaper. -.-

  16. surprise surprise kenny, you sound a bit upset with my previous comment.i read your blog all the time which you have come out with lots of diff and funny and cool ideas which really impressive.
Its just that i reckon this entry was a bit erm…….dunno how to call it.Sometimes accepting people comment could be a hardest thing but it could be an improvement as well.
Since my comment is so lame in your opinion well just accept the fact then.
Looking forward with your next entry.

  17. i dont see anything wrong wif da guy dancing in his undies.. guess u hvt seen more of d&g ads, kenny… try the cruise collection 2007 ad..u could totally see the guy’s buttock…

  18. Don’t u hate it when ppl insist there is “nothing wrong” and call this a “desperate” post? Sigh..

  19. its a D&G ad la, they design evytin including undies…and its europe, dont be so conservative. wat a lame post…

  20. well, that’s only an ad …. if D&C doesn’t show the guy with undies …. NOBODY will stop and take note of the ad especially the ladies, right or not? May be Kenny Sia turn to the dark side? jadi pondan ?? : )

  21. Typical Anglo-Saxon prejudice – women must dress in itty-bitty skimpy stuff, while men cannot be so exposed. Continental Europeans have no problem with that lo.

  22. OMG ! Its just a photo edit. The dude was added in.
Why are there ppl talking about how its not ok in malaysia, and how its ok it being in italy, and how you wouldnt mind him dancing next to u. 0.o

    hahaha hilarious..

  24. There is nothing wrong, my idol. Don’t you see there is group of people who have the top shirt off in the advertisement? Underwear also need to sell, come on.

  25. Actually Kenny, I agree with some of them. I don’t find anything wrong with that. Furthermore, the underwear carries the D&G logo. It’s a form of advertisement to sell D&G underwears perhaps!!
Maybe you can write a letter or email to D&G and you could do something like what you did to OSIMS U zap, and pose yourself, then recommend to D&G as a proposal. See if they do reply you. Hihihi…
    =P

  26. its meant to mock the stupid news about the Wawa model acussing the “model and actor” of sexual harressment la..
The main point is not the ad. its the news!

  27. yeah, thr’s nth wrong wif the ad. they r just promoting publicizing their products and heck, its western country, not any islamic country LOL

  28. LAME!!!
and by the way, they DO show that ad in Asia in many magazines, even in the middle east by the way!
And plus, what about all those perfume ads.. and don’t forget actors in movies..the male lead making out with his colleague naked… OOOooOo scandalous! -_-

  29. I wonder who is that singer of a local band who send half-naked pictures of himself to a 21-years old model that was reported in The Star. Anyone knows??

  30. Hey.. u all are really ah beng.. u know what is fashion? Gosh… that ad. campaign is about the fun, party and summer. What’s wrong with the man in underwear? Uncle, D&G also sells underwear… U fool~~~~
And this is d&g, diffusion line of Dolce & Gabbana, they are two different things!

  31. At first I thought Kenny wanted to comment about.. why is the girl lifting her leg up for the guy lying on the floor to look upwards into her skirt?

  32. Hmmm… it’s spelled Gabbana not Gabanna. Plus I think nothing is wrong with the ad… to some people I guess they can’t seem to absorb these sort of ad, thats why Malaysia don’t franchise this great label which is a really sad thing (look at how poorly we our country people’s fashion sense is no offense). So sad. I think D&G’s concept is sometimes very sexist but overall, unique.

  34. come on, kenny.
this is THE Dolce and Gabbana. They’ve been doing controversial and edgy ads since forever.
    This one is nothing.
You should see those gang rape, homosexuality D&G ads.
    They’re worse than this one.
    Welcome to high fashion.
Fashion adverts are not just people with clothes on.
    It’s art.

  35. No wonder the model with underwear din show his face.(To avoid any trouble)
Hey Kenny, see u in the coming MMU official prom this saturday nite!~A fairytale ending Mystique 2008~

  36. just another giveaway that you are gay, kenny. Coz str8 guys won’t notice such details like scantily-dressed male in the ad.

  37. dont get discouraged kenny sia, you can only cater to so much of the targeted market, and not everyone buys your game, dont be offended by some comments as some are meant to just pull you down and some to build you up, select some and discard the rest, you dont even have to hear them.
i dont think this is lame/desperate/lazy post, some jokes are meant to be short or ‘slapstick’. some hates parodies , some laugh their lungs out at it. Some love intellectual stand up jokes, some dont even get a word out of it.
so for some of you guys who dont think it’s funny, keep it to yourself, just know that he can’t always be writing or posting something that can impress you 24/7, unless you’re paying him to be your personal entertainer, you have all the rights to scold or ask him to do something you’ve supposedly paid him to do.

  38. Halo.. nothing seem impossible in the world of fashion, being a blogger, you have to be little bit open minded right? please… the ads is good. nothing wrong with it..
