More Bloglitics.
If you write about people gloating over their first cheques from Google AdSense, people are gonna get upset thinking you have something against people who put up Adsense on their blogs.
If you write about the Singaporean blog culture being mature, people are gonna say you think Malaysian bloggers are immature.
If you write about Singaporean bloggers being treated more seriously in their country, people are gonna say you think Malaysian bloggers are inferior.
If you befriend Xiaxue, people will think you are Xiaxue.
If you attempt to find out what good points the Singaporean blogosphere have over the Malaysian blogosphere, people will think you’re trying to complain, or compare, or change. And change = very bad.
In short, don’t write anything good about Singapore, or Australia, or about any other countries. Or else people will think you have something against your own country.
Because I was misunderstood when I wrote in long proper English sentences, I hereby write my reaction to that in short simple English.

I looked back at my archives when people said to me they prefer my older entries and realised – shit – they’re right. I thought I was writing about my personal life, but for so long I’ve been writing about blogs and meeting other bloggers.
I think its difficult since the precise reason why I went to KL and Singapore was to attend the PPS gathering and to meet up with friends I made over the Internet.
The trip was memorable to say the least and I was fascinated in so many ways about difference in culture when it comes to blogging. When I returned to Kuching, I decided to document all these down as soon as possible before I forget them. What I didn’t realise was that the topic can be quite dry to some.
It then comes down to blogging for myself vs blogging for an audience. I used to be able to balance them pretty well but lately I’ve been leaning towards the former. As a result I see (constructive & destructive) criticisms rolling in. Sorry I subjected some of you older readers to the torture. I shall seek my balance again.

Kenny, I am assuming that you are not blogging in order to get everyone to like you, because the sad fact it, there will be SOMEONE out there who thinks that you are wrong. Thinking otherwise would be rather immature, and ranting about it does not make you more well liked either.
We all have our detractors and critics, and the point is some of them MIGHT be right. You must admit that the paragraph you wrote was bound to irk those who were blogging about their adsense cheques, gloating or otherwise. They are bound to hit back, and it is not entirely to do with blog politics as you say it.
There are people out there, who seemingly hits out at you but not personally. They do it on a level that get’s you to think about what you have written, and your motivations when writing it, and sometimes, they blog about what they read based on their perspective. I like how a fellow called t-boy engages blogosphere. I might not agree with hios rants all the time, but you have to admit that he does not get personal and instead goes for the issues at hand. If you blog, you have to be prepared to listen to thing you don’t like to hear and keep an open mind.
Your (now infamous) ‘gloat’ blog entry was not about a comparative analysis of blogging culture in Singapore or Malaysia. It was generally about your trip to Singapore, the fellow bloggers you met and the great time you had over there. Suddenly out pops that paragraph or two, comparing the two blogosphere, and unfavourably posturing Malaysian blogosphere as the poor second cousin of our southern neighbours. I can see how some people might take it negatively.
On the other hand, I also believe that since you have explained yourself, people should just drop the whole ‘Get Kenny’ issue. Those who continue pressing the issue obviously have some issues with you, your blog or the attention it has been getting, and that is downright cheap. But we have cheap shot bloggers everywhere, here and the rest of the world, and frankly, when you start getting the readership that comes with popularity, you find out that ‘pop’ is a double edged sword. We all make mistakes, and people mistake us for what we are not as well. That is not blog-politics, that’s life.
So my friend, don’t be disheartened. Ibelieve you have hit the nail on the head, no matter how misconstrued your little paragraph was. You must be the first blogger from Malaysia who bridged across to Singapore so well, and that deserves to be mentioned. At the end of the day, you could be right on many levels of thoughts arising from that passage you wrote. Even Jeff Ooi, whom I would say epitomises the peak of blogging in Malaysia, can not feed his family if he were to rely on blogging. It is very much an unrecognised passion in Malaysia, a labour of love. And when passionate, we tend to get hurt by overtly malicious criticism.
We are all learning my friend. Keep up the effort and let’s keep up the blogging as well.

Kenny, most of us at some point or other have kena politics at some point or other. Stuff I’ve learnt (from myself and from your bare-it-all, true to soul sharing) that I blog for myself. And myself alone. No one else. If I think a certain post might annoy someone (and that I care enough about the someone), I might just password protect it and password it out to a certain few people I know who won’t get irked by it. Blogging to me is one of the rarest ways I can really let my hair down and bitch and rant (thus getting the name a ranting-and-bitching log rather than a web log) but shees, I don’t really care. If some people think that you really mean the Malaysian blogosphere is a piece of crap compared with the refined and cultured singaporean one, then Hell Yeah, the Msian blogosphere does suck. If anyone disagrees with you, beat their children with a sharp pointy stick. Nice guys never get the happy endings so quit being one. If people can’t take a joke, then give them the finger, and see if they can swallow that instead.
I didn’t get to read these low blow comments that were aimed at you so I have no idea if it was a malaysian or some just-out-of-plain-spite singaporean who made so I’d rather not screw the wrong party.
To be honest, I don’t see how people can view your posts in a negative light. If they do, then they are narrowminded shell headed people. Oh, it’s a subjective thing, now? Everybody is entitled to their own opinion? Wrong. Stupid people don’t get to have an opinion.

Like I commented on Aizuddin’s blog, fame comes with a price. Whatever you say can be misinterpreted into something really ugly. You can only choose to ignore, and get on with life, or be totally perplexed with all these derogatory comments and suffer from insomnia or something like that. Consider it a blessing to be admired by others and put aside the ugly comments that come your way. Its like playing ball. You can choose to stand there and let the other guy hit your head with the ball, or you dodge the ball, and even better, return the ball back to him and he would wonder why the hell did he throw the ball at you in the first place. It takes two hands to clap. If you exhibit evidence of annoyance over the comments, you will egg people on and they get the kick out of deflating your coconuts. What’s the point?
You are the person whose paying for the bandwith. You are the person who thinks like crazy what posts to put up the next day so that your die hard fans, be it in Bolehland or Kiasuland or Land of the Down Under, would not suffer from insomnia because they did not have their daily dose of “KS Sleep tight Laugh hard” medicine.
In any event, this is life. You probably face the same problems at work, with people jealous of your status and position, of the power that you hold, etc. This is life.
Your probably chose inappropriate words to describe Malaysians who are on google adsense although the message that you were trying to convey was that Malaysians actually had to rely on Google Adsense whereas Singaporeans get approached for endorsements.
Why not be the first in Malaysia and go scout for endorsements? Instead of waiting, why not start something? Judging from the line you are in (ie your day job), your suppliers should be more than happy to be featured in your blog. Sometimes it takes a brave person to break the barrier. You did it with your April Fool’s post. I await your next miracle.

I just left you guys alone for a little while and see what happened? You went to some eating place and got yourself a nice t-shirt from some guy on the street. Went over to the land of sheep and have your slimy octopus-arms all over those underdeveloped girls (except Scarlet Ting OK), who don’t look like they have ever stepped into Eden garden. If they were anyway close to the sarong girl, you would have a hell load of mature fun time but you didn’t, and in fact you would only need one. So it is not the number, it is the right sheep that counts. Don’t you wish all Singaporeans are as adventurous and as mature as sarong girl. I do. Let’s call it project Disney Down South, and it would a hell lot of project for the sarong girl.
Now see what happened. You are now back but showing full-blown symptoms indicative of badly shrunk balls, and unleashed a succession of moaning and groaning about the withered un-vigaraed blog-stick, anyway some sort of “tic†as you called it.
You make it to the top in a short six months and there is much to cheer about. And for those who don’t see it your ways, I would say tough and hopefully they will one day. If it is about financial rewards, there is a better chance reading up hedge fund than monkey around with Photoshop. It has now becoming clear that handling comments, and dealing with diverse views are more than half of blogging and I really thought you handle it very pragmatically and well.

and denying that it isn’t a blow to your ego is just lying to yourself.
write for what you believe in rather than sensationalize for the benefit of your readers who want a good laugh and are up for humorous criticism – sometimes with a point, sometimes not – which is all fair.
if what is in the blog is all you, even if someone else has something to say, let them say it. were you not vouching for blog freedom? freedom of content? are they not allowed to criticize you just as you criticize others?

Pope + moon, I know. 🙂 Sorry for subjecting you guys to these types of postings for the past 1.5 weeks. But memang that’s what I did when I was in KL and Singapore, which I had fun, which I wanted to remember, which I wanted to document.
I realised I’ve done a bit of an overkill so I’ll cut down on writing about that.
As for writing about the commercial aspects of blogging, I’ll put that to rest as well.
More normal life stuff from now on.

Don’t feel so down-lah Bro. Numpties exist in cyberspace to remind us that there are all kinds of ppl out there in the world.
It’s not surprising that some people got very sensitive over certain issues you’ve mentioned in your blog. It’s good if they let you know in a constructive manner how your comments may have hurt them but that doesn’t mean that you need to oblige all of the bleeding hearts out there.
At the end of the day, a blog was never meant to be politically correct.
This is YOUR blog, Kenny. So write whatever you feel like writing. You are not writing for anybody (no readers here pay you salary for writing right?) but yourself. Readers should accept you as the original Kenny Sia, and not the Kenny Sia they want. Those who only want to read funny blogs can skip your serious blog and laugh again at your older post. Or simply, blog hop to another place, return again when you have a funny post. Readers, you have all the freedom to choose whether to read, or not to read. But why dictate what Kenny should write?
of course there are certain guidelines for almost everything in life, but then again, it is your blog and you can write whatever stuffs that you wish. you can’t please everyone, right?
