Short Talk:

The following fact can make stomachs churn, so if you have no balls you might wanna stop reading right now.

Fact: Everytime after I recover from a heavy workout or an all-out run in the park, I notice that my shit doesn't come out in it's usual brownish glory. Instead it's red, like blood. I'd like to think that it's because fats in my body are burning, but the truth could be more worrying. :(

I Need Sponsors

I just signed up for the 42km KL International Marathon that's gonna happen in two weeks time.

I hate forms that ask for redundant information. What's the point?

The only reason I did it was because Eddie issued me a challenge, promising that he'll bank in USD50 for me if I managed to complete the whole 42 kays.

Now you know I am not one to back down from a challenge, because MY NAME IS KENNY SIA AND I HAVE TESTICLES THE SIZE OF COCONUTS DAMMIT! ;)

I hesitated at first because I know endurance is not my forte. Strength-wise I'm fine, I just don't have the stamina for a full-fledged marathon race.

Actually I DO have stamina, just not on my feet. Somewhere higher.

Regardless, I'm obviously not in it to win it - I just wanted to see if I have the perseverance to run the full 42 km.

Likely photo of Kenny Sia, post-marathon.

There is one problem though: I've calculated my expenses to KL, and all-in-all I have to pay about RM700 for travel and accomodation. That is NOT good for someone who's been living with an expanding credit card debt for the past few months.

I'm looking for corporate sponsors to finance my trip to KL. As a once-off offer only, I'm selling 1-month image advertisement space on kennysia.com for just RM300 (that's SGD130, or USD80). Not many media that can offer 13000 daily audience for that price, so long as you're clear that you're sponsoring Kenny Sia and not Michael Johnson, it's a pretty good deal. E-mail me at im [at] kennysia.com for details.

Just submitted my application form and booked my AirAsia flight to KL on the 4th March. The competition is happening 5am on the 5th March and I'm probably gonna pass out from exhaustion in the hotel room immediately after the marathon [Sorry Lainey, no more La Bodega this time]. Hmmm... do you think AirAsia flights have room for stretchers?

Speaking of which, having the competition start at 5am is damn ridiculous. Bloody hell, 5am is NOT the time to run ok, it's the time I go to SLEEP.

Heck, they ought to have a competition JUST to see if I can wake up before 5am.

Come to think of it, me taking up the marathon challenge is a really bad idea.

It's bad because:

1. I've never participated in a marathon race ever before.

2. The only training I had was walking around KLCC for 3 hours carrying Nicole's shopping bags.

3. All the other contestants look like this.

And I look like this.

But heck, I've signed up already.

I just hope I can still feel my legs after the race.

Unregistered

Unregistered

"Instead it's red, like blood." Sounds like you need a colonoscopy - a camera up your butt!!

Unregistered

Eh you walk all the way like pondan also you can finish what. Where got thrill one? Set time limit la friend... and let us all put bet on it!

Unregistered

Do you knoe how far is 42km??? averagely..a normal person can go 3miles or 4.8km per hour.... that means u need bloody 10hours to complete.... Goof Luck to you man...

Unregistered

Impossible for you, is 42km, not 0.42km. If you intend to walk, you need a whole day. Good luck!

Unregistered

42km? ARE YOU MAD?
AND U HARDLY HAD UR TRAINING WEH!!
ARE YOU MAD?
YOU GONNA DIE OF EXHAUSTION, KENNY!
im 19 and i seriously had a hard time just by finishing a 7km marathon!

then again, ur being Kenny with the guts so, wish you all the best! make sure u blog back so, we know u survive the race =)

Unregistered

42 km is really really bad. Trust me, you will have a very hard time finishing 42 km. But yeah, you are Kenny Sia, I am sure you have a way to finish the race legitimately:). Have lotsa fun!

Unregistered

hey kenny...it's all in ur mind...if u think u can do it...u can...have faith in urself...u won't be running alone anyway..there'll be plenty of ppl go there juz to have some fun out of it...so yeah..enjoy~...juz make sure dun get lost halfway XD

Unregistered

Ah??? marathon is for commorating a messenger who ran 42km and died of exhaustion. I certainly hope we still have the blog after the run.

I wondered if you have spoken to people who ran marathon. My friend trains 3 times a week for months and find it hard to complete the marathon.

I am not doubting your mental tenacity. Just don't overstrain yourself.

Unregistered

Good Lord ~ 42kms?! Hope you've got all the training in. All the best with the sponsorship, hope you do good on the marathon.

Unregistered

Not trying to doubt you but maybe you should consider what this website has to say

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/143.shtml

While virtually any runner can complete a marathon with enough preparation and determination, large reservoirs of both are required. You should NOT run a marathon unless you have at least A YEAR of running experience behind you to prepare both mind and muscle for the miles and months of training ahead. Make sure, too, that you review Cool Running's tips for injury prevention in the Aches & Pains section.

Preparing for a marathon, after all, is no easy thing. It is a big, big time commitment, and for most it demands vast amounts of energy -- physical, mental and emotional. The pay-off, of course, is equally enormous. Enhanced strength, confidence and stoicism are the treasures reaped by all marathon athletes, whatever their ability

Hey dude, just for signing up, $25 is deposited in your account, another $25 when you finish.

BTW with your sexy pacs you'll need either a shirt designed for running or some Nipple Guard like the last pix.

I can do it, you can too, Kenny.

Unregistered

Kenny if you ever manage to finish 42km, damn you will be thin like Harry Potter.. that is if you are still alive.. 42km is freaking far!

Unregistered

Kenny,
I'm E's sister. We are the health nuts in the family. I will sponsor you but you must make it to the finish line. FYI, I usually don't sponsor anyone if the event is not raise money for charity. 5am is good time, when the air in KL is still fresh. or maybe not....

Unregistered

first up, get your ass checked. I know a few doctors who have a penchance for sticking their hands in people's hershey factory.

second left, i applaud your signing up for a marathon!! i emceed for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon last december and just by being there, i can feel the hard work, the determination, the pump, the muscle pain, the stagnant air filled with body sweat and wet grass.

third down, get in shape. U'll need the training and the will power. Sometimes it's not all always mind over matter. Set your goal to achieve (full 42km) but also know when you have to say NO and let your body rest.

fourth right, i go find you in KL and you can carry my shopping bags after your run!

Unregistered

gosh!, 42km is like driving from kuching to serian. cycling to there was almost half dead, not to talk about running. As you acclaimed that 2ft upper is your strength, might be better to try intercourse marathon like the singporean girl (104), guess guiness book record gives more than 50 bucks

Unregistered

Good luck~! You have my prayer.
Amen and Amitabha =)

Unregistered

what if you bLeed at your aSs after the race again? or worse ? .. during the blooDy tiring race your aNus starts bLeeding like a blooDy shit hole infected with .. virus that's eating up your entire ass ? or worse .. you have a flesh/blood eating/sucking creature growing and reproducing by millions in your ass ?

Unregistered

good luck kenny!
i have been running in standard chartered marathon for 3 years. even with lots of training, i'd say its still no walk in the park!
Top up ur insurance just in case ya?

Unregistered

I had a very, very fit friend who did 42km, finished, couldn't feel his legs after that and went on MC for 2 days due to dehydration.

You're so going to die, Kenny.

Unregistered

oh no,,, u r one crazy guy!

lol

Unregistered

Kenny, hope u are really thinking twice of going running. Even if u try to walk all 42 km is not an easy task. For a start maybe u can try walk to work for next week onwards and see 'tahan' or not. Otherwise what is USD50 is u have to spend like USD 50 times xxx for your medical fee later on. And u may have to pay higher premium for your health insurance. He he he. I would say USD 5000 then maybe u should consider. Heck, the sponsor money u ask for is more than USD 50 la.

Unregistered

get some tips from Vanessa!(Lainey's friend)

Goodluck man. I did the Adidas King of the Road last time and couldnt feel my legs for 1 week!

Unregistered

just keep running and think of the USD 50 and how much fats u re gonna burn.Herculus soon to be.lol.anyway,all the best to u. =)

Unregistered

Hi Kenny,
I can co-sponsor you. Let me know what else you need. Cheers!

Unregistered

Good luck!

Unregistered

Good luck!!! By the way, you need a lot of proteins, eat more red meat like beef.

Unregistered

God be with you...

Unregistered

i'm more concern about yr health.

is 42km

not 4.2km.

WAKE UP!!!

Unregistered

Go go Kenny!!! You have fish fish's full support. Must get Eddie's US$50. Woohoo!!

Unregistered

omg!
please make sure u are still alive after the run.

Unregistered

wow this is my very first comment at this site though i've been reading u since like forever. haha.

seriously, u need to train for it... twice daily would be good, but i doubt u have the time, just do wad u can. remember, YOU MUST PREPARE FOR IT. 42km is no joke.. pls be OKAY after the run, ya?

good luck for the marathon!
*hugz*

Unregistered

Hey Dude, it’s depressing to see discouraging comments, ignore them, without proper exercise and healthy diet, you won’t be looking that Kawaii anymore in 10 years time.

For my first marathon, I trained for 2 month and my longest run prior to a race was only 8 miles, you should be able to fished, althouh it will be brutle. I rested for one day and went to work, my last run , I was working the next day.

Some running tips for your last two weeks of prep.

Use gravity. You don’t need to push yourself forward. Do a 原地跑步 , with your back straight, lean forward. What happen? Yes, you are moving effortless.

Do no hold a fist, instead hold a loose “OK” sign at waist level, your heart will not be working extra hard with less restriction.

Do not lift your feet/swing your arm/ twist your torso more than you needed. Smooth sliding forward motion.

To reduce strain on your ankles, run in the middle of street as all streets are built angled on the sides for drainage purposes. At every turn, cut into the corner like F1 racing, you save some distance. They do add up in a 26.2 mile run.

Wear blister free socks, cool max hat, shirt, runner’s short ( yes, go commando) and lightweight sunglasses.

Since you’ll be swinging your arms at least 84,000 times, make sure you put generous amount of Vaseline or leftover KY jelly at your armpit and crotch area. Shave them armpit/pubic hair if you don’t feel too gay. Trust me, friction will turn those big coconuts red and sore.

Will power: Human are designed to run about 12 miles, after mile13, it’s all mental, you may hallucinate, you will have to do some imagination to get you through. Talking to yourself, is good. I always imagine an engine/train/18 wheeler going down the highway. The trained mental power may one day help you overcome illness, back stabbing friends, cheating wife ..., you’ll never know.

Drink a lot of water the day before, quality carbs, make sure you have a few gel pack before race day to avoid Lau sai when you run. Do not miss water station, away drink a cup or two, cool yourself with water.

Every 1.6 km, remind your self” relax, posture, vroom ,vrooom, vroom”

Go Kenny Go…Good Luck, hope your race will be an enjoyable experience and addictive one…I am sure the Blackwidow will challenge you to participate in her type of competitive sport soon.

BTW, when you cross your very first Marathon finishing line….tears of joy!

Unregistered

Hello? - this is your 'Unker FH2o' who has TWICE d stamina u had, remember? (do i need 2 hit ur head w d paddle again?) I HAD ran many marathons b4 and d bad news is that KL's the TOUGHEST!! Even at my present fitness level, I wouldn't be able to do it! I would seriously need to train for 3 solid months to be ready! To finish, u'll probably have to walk most of d distance taking u at least 6hrs or more to complete. Keep Moving - Never Stop. Drink plenty fluids along d way; Do NOT miss any water stops. Call me if u need more tips. U had my 10sens worth - GOOD LUCK! U need it man! Oh - prepare 2 b humiliated later on! kekeke

Unregistered

You'll finish the marathon la...... and blog about it... we are waiting XD

Unregistered

Advice from ko-ko Sisuahlai:

I don't want to encourage you because I scared you will suffer badly and then I had to live with a conscience of supporting deliberate self harm.

Doing a marathon with 2 weeks left without previous training is MEDICALLY CONSIDERED AS AN ACT OF DELIBERATE SELF HARM.

Look, E. made you a deal. Now, he changes his deal. US$25 now is in your pocket. You have gained that much just by putting pen to paper. You don't even have to show up on that day and you are already US$25 richer. I say take that money and forget the other half.

You want challenge, how about eating 50 kolok mee in 30 minutes? I think that is much safer than 42K Marathon. Read the comment before: MARATHON IS THERE TO COMMEMORATE A PERSON WHO DIED FROM EXHAUSTION AFTER RUNNING 42KM. He had to do it to convey a victory message to the Emperor, so that others won't have to.

MALAYSIA BOLEH, but doing a marathon without training, MEMANG TAK BOLEH.

Unregistered

Hey Kenny...Good luck for your marathon...juz rem to drink alot of water the nite b4 and try to avoid chilli hot stuff...just something less oily & lot will do... =)

Unregistered

GO MAN GO !!!! I sapot you !!!

Unregistered

I think instead of sponsoring for your flight over, we better sponsor your hospital bills after this whole event.

Not to sound discouraging, but seriously. Doing a full 42km marathon without months of training beforehand is SUICIDE.

And given your physique, powerlifting might be more suitable for you. ;)

Unregistered

ha ha ha
my advice: buy a pair of knee supports cause with your weight, after 42km, the knees are as good as numbed.

Unregistered

lol hey kenny, good luck with the marathon. when i unwittingly volunteered for my college cross country race, i didnt realise how unsuited i realli was for it, until the day after the race. (not that that's much encouragement). but i had fun. one word: ENDORPHINS. multitudes of it, considering 42km. lol.

Unregistered

eek! You should consult a doctor about the reddish stools.

Seriously!

Unregistered

Kenny Kenny. You should join the upcoming Saberkas RH Marathon 2006 as a warm up for your 42km race in KL. The website is at http://www.saberkasrhmarathon2006.com/ It would be a real test to see whether you can cope up with the marathon standard distance of 42km. Anyway, good luck Kenny.

Unregistered

Gor for it fat boy!!!

Unregistered

juz swim over lar. either u be a salt fish by then or be thin. win-win situation.

shld've asked for rm500. corporate mahhh

Unregistered

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA...this is the funniest post yet!!! You running a marathon??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHEHEHEHEEHEHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHEHEHHAHAHAHAHAHA
US50?? US5000 I also give to see you do it!! C'mon, I dare you, cunt!!

Unregistered

ah, kenny, better get a health check up as soon as you can. these kind of things need to be caught early. what is worrying is that noticeable changes suggest something serious. and marathons, though it is a physical activity, is not really good for your body. but i do hope that in the process of going through it, that you will end up healthier. all the best!

Unregistered

I hope you can survive and blog about it.

Unregistered

Damn Kenny. What have you got yourself into. Still... respect lah... have the guts to join. But then again 42 blardy km! I used to hate running 1500m in sch. 42 blardy km! Is there a time limit? If not, you can just take your time and reach the finishing line 2 days after. Bleh.

Unregistered

Ur stools seriously r problematic. U may have damaged upper or lower intestines, or maybe even cancer! Get an endoscopy b4 it's too late. Btw, if u relly go commando on that day, i'm sure the other runners will be very disturbed & distracted. All the best!

Unregistered

Wow...support and impressed by ur guts...
But not so impressed otherwise.
But if you're really going for it, I'd say good luck. Dun stressed urself if u really can't finish... Bad health is not worth $25.
If u end up in HKL, let me know...I'll bring some grapes....that is if u can still move... muahahaha

Unregistered

Kenny... Your full name in your IC doesn't have the word Kenny in it right???

Is this a prank?

Unregistered

go for it kenny!
u hav my support

go kenny go!

Unregistered

interesting.. 42km ar.. I wish u all the luck la har.. The last time I joined a run (6km), I went home and start vomitting for 2 days.. for dunno wat reason..

And really.. it needs alot of mental power..

Unregistered

About your shit issue... do you think it could simply be a confounding variable due to the stuff you habitually eat after a workout? Maybe you like to eat a particular type of food or drink. Or maybe you eat more. Protein in general tends to make life harder for shitters. Is there blood when you clean your shit? Are your working out regularly? Try workin out mor often and see. Good luck! Crap in general varies from ochre to greenish to black. Reddish is a first, for me at least.

Unregistered

ahaks....seems that u have been training in civic centre huh:D?

Unregistered

Well...at least you look cute in your .."track suit"? I meant that okay^^

Unregistered

The challenge never say you must finish within what timing right?

If that is the case, enjoy your 42km walk. :)

Unregistered

errrr... i can offer u a place to stay.... :X

Unregistered

jia yo! erm.. is that like the correct spelling? coz i dont really know much mandarin.

in any case, you get the idea.
you'll do just fine.

looking forward to see u blog abt this.
go kenny go!

Unregistered

ehh, y do u always have tat idiotic face hanging around ur head whenever u r taking a picture.
can u just not make an idiot out of urself?
it's kinda funny in the 1st few pics... but its been a while since u've been doing that fuckin face of urs and its disgustinggggggg

Unregistered

I'm awed! But nevertheless, good luck.

Unregistered

i think kenny need someone to sponsor him an ambulance, a cheerleader to spice things up and an ass grabber to speed things up.

about the face thing, don't worry. it wil be kenny's last due to the amount of weight he is gonna lose.

Unregistered

u're out of ur mind,Kenny....
(SLAP!SLAP!SLAP!)......WAKE UP,Kenny!!!!!

Unregistered

damn, kenny, 42km, zhun bo?

Unregistered

haiyo..... i wun say that u wont make it, but hope u r physically prepared for it. 42 click is nt that simple. But we will root for ya.. Take good care.

Unregistered

You may want to get it checked out. Blood in the stool (if it is) could be haemorrhoids. Just for safety's sake :)

Good luck in the marathon!

Unregistered

this is mision imposible for u la....im edi been labeled bad-english idiot liao..u wanna become the fat idiot meh....later vincent lau from bitching blog gonna mock u by making a post in his blog titled "kenny the fat idiot with coconuts balls failed in marathon run"...ai meh ai meh....

wOw Kenny! to be honest, i been following your blog for a while. i find it funny and i could not stop myself to post it here the first time. i would like to ask you, are you sure you did hand in the form or rather just filled it up(and had the picture snap) for the sake of this blog? Either way, if you indeed for the sake of the blog, yay... i still can read your blog in the office. Else, i would wish you all the best. For extra motivation purpose for you to complete the race, please allow me to chase you with my motorbike. If i get you, your ass is mine!!!! hahaha...

P/S: Im no babe, im a guy..... (i bet this is a good motivation already, for my nice blogger who kept me entertained during weekdays @ 8am-5pm)

good luck!

Unregistered

Fark la, the amount of people here who just tell you that it's impossible.

Just do your best man, you know your own capabilities and whether you can do it or not - hey, what's the worse that can happen, you get too tired and don't complete the marathon or walk your way to the end - I think you're smart enough to decide for yourself whether you can finish the marathon, or whether you're going to push yourself to death or something.

All these comments are probably well-meaning, so not to put them down. But I think it's admirable you're trying to do something difficult, that's the main thing, best of luck!

Unregistered

eh nothing to say liao la but GOOD LUCK and just bear in mind if u can't win them then fart let them faint aje hahaha provided u are in the front line and not behind hehehee anyway it's a good way to trim down i guess and heck who knows before u knew it u will be so damn slim after the race? haha but i wonder how fast we can get the update from u after the race. Since u might need to gather back all ur energy before u got the urge to blog ah ARGHHHHHHH~~~~~

Unregistered

USD50 for 42km is not worth it. anyway, i hope you make it but i seriously think you won't. 42km is a loooong way.

Unregistered

all the best ;p

Unregistered

ohhhh goodluck kenny!!! =) ... still havent failed to make me laugh from every one of ur entries =P

Unregistered

Good Luck there... the longest I've done is only a mere 2.4km back in SG NAFA test.

Approx 20x longer? I'm sure you can make it... perhaps modifying your "Coconut Balls" into a form of wheeling transport can help?

Unregistered

hahhaahh i love you man you can do it!

Unregistered

Good luck!

Unregistered

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

...but in all seriousness, unless you have been training distance running regularly for some time, it is not wise to go the whole distance straight away. I have done a 21 km race before and frankly, I seriously doubt if I could push it all the way to a full marathon given what I know about myself. It's partly psychological, but then that's just me.

You CAN go ahead, but pls do pay close attention to your own body. It will speak to you, first in whispers, and gradually in a flat out scream. 5 hrs. after you start (and yes, chances are pretty high that you will still be on the road by then), it will be 10 plus and very hot. Chances are also pretty high that you may have a blister or two in a pair of wet shoes. And chances are you will probably be walking very slowly (if not limping) at this stage. So, uh, you go, go all the way lah, but go informed weh!

We are so gonna be entertained.

Unregistered

Oh gosh! You really got BIG balls to sign up for a 42km marathon!! Your balls are probably gonna drag on the floor after your marathon...Muahaahahahhaaa....

Unregistered

Hi kenny,

Regarding ur stool....if its brght red ...tat means the problem is at the lower part of ur colon...might be piles ...eat more fiber will do....if its internal bleeding, it should be in black...coz by the time the stool reach the rectum...the bright red is gone.....I think its because of the sport supplements u took b4 ur workout.....better consult a doctor though..

As for marathon, u SHOULD start to train now......and rememebr not to buy a new pair of shoe.....use the usual trainer ........u have to eat more complex carb for a few weeks prior to the marathon and train during this period........and two days b4 the marathon...just rest and eat the same amount of complex carb........this way u will get "explode" on the marathon day....and dont forget to hydrate urself too!

All the best!

Unregistered

Dude..you've never ran a marthon..wat more a half marathon..there's no chance in heck you'll ever complete thise one with 2 weeks wroth of training

Unregistered

Two weeks to a Marathon.
Seriously, i have to applaud you for even thinking that.
its much too short a time for you to even prepare for a half marathon, and we are talking about exponential figures here, not proportional ones.
Still, if your aim is just to complete it by walking, i think you will do just fine.
there's no way you are going to finish it running non-stop, that much i am sure.
All i can advise you is that you better buy more of the powergel (url: http://www.powerbar.com/Products/PowerGel/ )from GNC, say around 2-3, and consume them say around the 17km, 25km and 33km mark. Also the chocolate ones taste real great.
Just remember to conserve some energy for the final burst of 200m cos thats where all the crowd will be anyway. though my estimate is that you will finish around 6-7 hours, meaning around 12 noon.
Oh, drink lots of water in the days leading up, cos it will be the only thing that will help you.
Good luck from Singapore

Unregistered

GROW UP KENNY. NO ONE JUST TURNS UP TO RUN A MARATHON JUST LIKE THAT.

Unregistered

Good luck! Die Die will finish one..so many people will be running with you- You will finish 'cuz of pride.

It's all in the mind..

Unregistered

you can do it. =))

When you want to give up, think that the end is near . =))

I find its damn long anyway, 42km ok.

Unregistered

to run 42 KM marathon for the sake of US$50??? dun risk your life like this...

Unregistered

U are only 1 year older than me? opps.. i got the misconception that you are much older... Gambate for the run.. just try to finish it :)

Unregistered

42KM!? I think the longest I've ever run is 10km. Unless you choose to walk, you're going to die.

Unregistered

hahaha you're a dead motherfscker.

Unregistered

42km.....you should realize why they are starting at 5am huh? :P
Good luck to you. Walk lor your bet was on finishing the 42km nothing about finishing first.

Unregistered

Don't listen to them Kenny! You'll be fine crossing the finishing line. Do you remember P. Diddy's (he's Diddy now) marathon event 2 years ago? The dude is no better than you and he finished the New York marathon.

You can do it! Start training from today. If you can do it, I may sign for a marathon/walk myself later this year too.

And remember: exercise will help your hair grow j/k

I meant to put a link for you on your last post but some how I could not. My cousin had very thin out hair and he used this product called "Nioxin" on his hair. It works very well. You can order online. The type for your hair is system 2

This is no laughing matter. You can still complete 42 km if you have determination, but you'll definitely fall sick. Our body is not conditioned to run such a long distance if we don't train before hand.

Think twice kiesss... at most walk when you have to... All the best to you!

But nonetheless, good luck!

Good Luck!!!

Kenny.. i had a friend who runs marathons and triathalons.. ermm.. Even though she trained for them, she will still end up with body aches and jell-o legs coz of the physical strain on the body.. so better make good preparation for the 'after-marathon' effects as well.. ;)

all the best!

Unregistered

you're serious about RUNNING for the full 42 KM?! you must be (coco)nuts man, i ran 3.2 for crosscountry and felt like dying. of course you can always walk..

Meh don't listen to the detractors. 42k is doable in a couple of hours as long as you keep hydrated and don't give in when you hit 'the wall'. Just think of Bak Kut Teh 5 yards in front of you and chase that Bak Kut Teh the entire race.

Unregistered

Bobo, he is running in KL.

Unregistered

Run to KL + 42km = Die Kenny Die.

Unregistered

42km. i did 10 km before and died at the end of the race.

Unregistered

Don't go. use the KL ticket and go shopping instead.

Unregistered

hahaha... ur age is 24 and u're running a 42km marathon.... wat a coincidence!

Unregistered

oh my gosh... we both share the same birthday!!! hahaha... woopeedoo...

Unregistered

Go man go, u can do it, even if u must crawl to the finish line u can finish it :D

Good luck man

Unregistered

Hei Good luck to u :)....all the best!!!

Unregistered

Fat boy, you are so screwed. There's no ice-in-hell chance that anyone without serious training can finish a full marathon [YES. Not even when you walk leisurely right from the start].

I will be glad to put in USD 10 into your paypal if you can finish HALF the marathon.

Unregistered

hahaha now anon also challenging, can't wait to see what happens *grin grin*

Unregistered

err......good luck kenny...42km is veli-veli long...

Unregistered

Ooo Kenny, I suggest you better start some training soon. Forget about winning, try avoiding getting a "DNF". See you there

Unregistered

Oh...btw, normal races start at around 5-6am so the contestants won't get heat stroke!! Another thing, stock up some PowerBars kay.

Unregistered

after 42km your coconut balls will be draggin on the road muakaakakakakkakakaka

Unregistered

Alas, Kenny Sia, I knew him well!

Well, not really. But you're going to die if you do 42km.

Unregistered

Look, if you are over 35, you will need months of preparation and probably never enough.

This is an eighteen years old guy, a brand new engine so to speak and hardly being abused except for the few trips to the pub, it is as good as being in training for 18 years.

Besides, he will not have the mental pressure to wear him down – he is there to cross the line, not to win except for risking reputation if The Coconut chickens out at any part of the course.

C’mon you can do it. I have seen some old and grey guys, thrice your age doing it at 5min per mile.

Unregistered

Don't forget the nipple cream!

Unregistered

You got balls to do this mamn. brass ones. RESPECT.

Unregistered

I think its a bad idea if you are not an experienced runner. When i say experienced, i mean at least getting used to a 10-15km run. You are going to feel really horrible and frequently feel like quiting the race even though its for the sake of completing it.

In any case, i'm speaking from my experience as a runner. All the best to you kenny!

Unregistered

hey, good luck~! shud haf taken a step at a time....

running 42km without training.-_-"... but.. looking frd to the result~ hehe

Unregistered

HSHSHAHEahEHAHSGEAHEaEHAEHAHEA!!!!!!!!1

Unregistered

awww... 42 km.... i'm sure u can do it ^^

Unregistered

those big coconuts might be a hindrance to you for this marathon...but anyway good luck

go kenny go

Unregistered

good luck kenny, in terms of training for the full Marathon and to your LEGS. that is if you can feel them after walking/running for the whole 42k, you would be able to finish the whole 42k below 8 hours. (remember MENTALLY FIT OK)

Unregistered

42 km..even further than damai man! hahaha..

Unregistered

[KS: Sorry I have to delete your comment. Please e-mail me though and I shall reply to your questions accordingly. Cheers! :)]

Unregistered

Take it easy and walk all the way if you have to. Just imagine a brisk 6 hr plus walk from one end of Singapore to the other end and back. During the race, find a pacer whose speed you are comfortable with and you'll find yourself staying mentally focused. I can assure you, this will not be your last marathon as you will be hooked to running at organised races after this. Sign up for the Saberkas run too. It's fun. Good luck.

Unregistered

umm........my uncle ran for 30km. and he trained like 2 months before. after that, he not only couldn't complete it, his toenails came out. but he's old d lar. early forties.good luck =)

Unregistered

Wat d ... Just go for it. You will never know the joy of finishing something that look impossible.Set your mind on it n finish the race at your own pace. Finish d next day olso never mind as long as you cross the finishing line. Must have d sporting spirit :)

Unregistered

Haha! So hemsem Kenny! :P

Unregistered

Kenny ah Kenny please go check for occult blood in your ehem output system. It could be really bad. But maybe it could be ok? Go check please!

Registered

we'll kenny, i know that the the community will sponsor you for the race ;) but has anyone thought of sponsoring kennys funeral if he doesn't make it? =P~

Unregistered

I'm not sure if you're aware of the sheer magnitude of the task. Without proper training, you likely won't be able to finish even by walking leisurely from start to end. Even if somehow you do, the damage to your legs etc would be extremely severe.

Those people cheering you on aren't helping you. You shouldn't be running it at all.

Unregistered

Way to go, pal. I wish you all the best in your endeavor in completing the marathon! :)

Unregistered

Bro, 10 simple tips from a guy (without prior training, same build, same situation) who did his first S'pore SC marathon few months back. You can finish if you're willing to make sacrifices to your personal comfort.
1. Start long slow jogs of about 30 mins today. But don't overdo it with speed or hills and injure yourself before even starting. Slow and long.
2. Start waking up before 5am daily to do light jogs, to accustom your body to the early hrs, and to help with point 3. It'll be a torure on day 1 but it gets better thereafter, trust me.
3. Clear your bowels before the run. Many marathoners are forced to give up when they have to go out of the way to find a loo. There will be mobile toilets (I hope) but there'll most probably be a (long)queue too.
4. Eat something along the way in addition to isotonic drinks. Your body stores can last about 90mins. If you don't replenish, you'll get muscle cramps. Body fat cannot convert fast enough to fuel you during the event, but food can (power gel, energy bars).
5. Eat lots of carbo type foods, esp. pasta starting today to fuel your training, esp. 2-3 days before the event to build up your glycogen levels (carbo-loading).
6. Don't do any exercise 1 day before the event or you won't have any reserves to finish.
7. You might want to wear sunnies or a cap on that day. Nothing worse than sun glare when you're struggling at the final stages.
8. Bring along an MP3 player. The music definitely helps to mask the pain, drown out your voices of doubt, and motivate you. I'd have failed without music.
9. Drink at evey drink station.
10. MOST IMPT: If you aim to complete, walk, don't run or jog. I walked from start to finish and crossed the line just over 8hrs...but I did complete, although barely. Good luck!

Unregistered

Oh ya, 2 more points:
11. Don't feel discouraged if ppl pass you. You're there to complete, not win. I only passed ONE person the entire course... felt very lousy during the entire course...but I completed. Many didn't :)
12. Prepare for the pain after the event...it'll pass gradually...after about a month (no joke). Excuse enough to go for a nice massage ;)

Unregistered

Don't let the detractors stop you. It will be a torture but you'll come out of it alive. No one is stupid enough to consciously run to their death. Just stop when you feel you really can't go on anymore. Simple as that. Even if you don't finish, what do you lose? The bet, but you will feel damn good about yourself that you gave a shot at something very few people dare to even try. Give up now and these same people call you a wimp. You choose.

Hey Kenny,
I was about yr build at around 24 yr old. I started running seriously when I was about 17 yrs old after watching the early Marathon runners. Usually I would go running in the late evening when it's cooler for about 5 to 10 km every day. Initially it was hard on the stomach, with excrutiating pain and agony, but after you have overcome it mentally, you'll feel a "second wind" coming through after passing the 1st 3-5 km marks. This would help me get over the huddle till the 10 km mark. That is when, my feet started to get heavy and leaden down.... usually it's my legs and feet that gave up after the 10 km mark. I took part in a couple of 10 km race,,,but was not fast enough to win...just some reasonable placing (within the top 5 to 10 position). A few others were always better than me.. but I was happy anyway, bcos...I was running to gauge my running ability and endurance. In the end I never ever take part in any marathon or even half a marathon, as I had a moderately heavy body (heavy bones structure), similar to yr build, which was no suitable for marathon...more mass (weight) to carry around.
(At 24 yrs old my weight then was about 65KG, HT=170cm).

One trick that got me going was to just think about getting over the next km..(and celebrate that mentally when I passed it..and set another small goal to pass another 1 km ahead).

U need to keep you body cool down...beside drinking copiously ...when u are running..seriously...u also need to also keep dousing down yr body with the water ...sponge or pour water over yr body...

So starting at 5 am is a good time....help yr body to get adjusted slowly..to the heat...building up in yr body..

Dont overdo what yr body cannot take...a friend of mine did a triathlon event...swim, cycling and running...in Spore a few yrs ago.

He had taken part in a few such events before, but this time around he did not have time to get into "condition". At the end of the race, he collapsed and was warded in Singapore Hosp.
His situation was quite bad, as the doctor thot that he nearly had a kidney failure.
Cost of Hosp Bill = S$6500 for about 4-5 days stay (2 day in ICU).

Why...bcos he push himself physically...mentally very strong...overcame all the signals sent out by his body...but physically ..he wasnt prepared or conditinoned for the heavy running...

Anyhow...good luck and hope you complete it...
Remember...u are running for yrself first...not for someone else...
Cheers...

I've managed to save up roughly $34668 in my bank account, but I'm not sure if I should buy a house or not. Do you think the market is stable or do you think that home prices will decrease by a lot?

Unregistered

Kenny,
my friend trained only a week prior to the singapore marathon last year. and he managed to run for about 10km, brisk walk another 10, stroll the 3rd quarter and drag his ass the last 12.195km. He did it in almost 9hrs.

AND he came back to work the next day. So don't worry too much! Good luck and I'll see you there at the finishing line (if you don't take too long)...
