This is my car.
This is my car after it crashed into a ditch.
Sigh. This happened last week when I was driving back to Kuching from Sematan after attending a 5-day training course.
I was trying to get back as soon as I could because I’m missing my nephew and nieces, and I wanna see them before I fly off to KL.
Me being me, I ignored the fact that the road was slippery due to rain, and cruised into a blind corner too fast too furious.
Next thing I know, I lost control of the car, skidded down the bend, spun around twice before flying off the highway and crashing into a ditch.
Funny thing was, I distinctively remembered that during that moment, everything sorta was happening in slow motion. Right before my car skidded off the path, I remember thinking to myself, “Hmmm… this is gonna cost me a lotta money!”
It’s a miraculous stroke of luck that I actually managed to survive the car crash unharmed.
In a situation like this, I could easily have been killed by an oncoming traffic or get knocked out on impact. My seatbelt literally saved my life, and I came out of the car wreck unscathed.
Anyway, my car is now in the workshop after raking up RM4,000 in repair bills.
My front bumper suffered a big dent, my two front tyres bursted and I’m sure the wheel alignment is all out of whack. The tow truck charged me RM300 to haul my vehicle 50km back to Kuching and I have to pay another RM300 in police summons.
Good thing I have insurance to soften the financial impact.
The moral of the story is: buy insurance.

I had almost the exact fate, but it was at the 3rd mile roundabout when the road was slippery in the sharp turn and I veered off course, too a 180 degrees turn and knocked on a lamp post which was on the left side of the road but somehow hit me on the car’s driver side on the right and turned sideways,of course I blogged about it, with photos to show.
I even had the time to think whether they have spare parts for a retro beetle volkswagen while turning sideways.

I had a similar accident, but my truck hit a guardrail and was even more damaged than yours. I had to pay big time, plus pay for the guardrail.And during the accident and even hours after that, I was quite shaken. Had to go to emergency room just to be sure. I hope you did too.
One question: someone was right there taking pictures of you, the car, the accident. How did that happen?

But the car was not mine and the driver was my friend too.
He drove too fast at the corner and lost the control, the car skided and spinned for 3 rounds, crash into a lamp post and spinned for another 2 rounds and the rear side of the car crash into the hill. WOw!! GREAT ExPERIENCE!
Funny thing was we are still laughing after gettin down from the car ..My friend’s car was totally busted we were fined!

You should have said, and realised that “In a situation like this, I could have killed an innocent, law-and-speed-limit-abiding father of three, or knocked out the promising future of a young person on impact.”
I hope the other readers can see through all the tasteless humour and drama and realise that when a car crash happens in the circumstances above, the main concern is not the survival of the party at fault, but the possibility of another party simply being at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

4k repairs. I am not suprised. From the photos provided, i am very very sure they are hidden damages under it. Undercarriage parts, ur radiator, aircond condenser, bumper, headlamps, bumper retainers etc etc.

Am concerned with the post that follows this as I’ve often found surviving an accident to be a very liberating experience. What hit you after that would have to be rather hurtful to cause the depression. Hope things will be well with you!

abt a year ago i hated my work/life so much that everytime i drove 2 work i wished i crash and break something. fortunately after making some difficult decisions and changes, that phase passed.i hope it works out for u.

Really, don’t be. Assuming that the accident blog triggered it, let me say that some people are just jealous that you can still smile and laugh after the accident. Some of the commentors are just simply narrow minded that one cannot smile and be serious at the same time in situations. It’s a good thing that you are not hurt and not dead, you didn’t kill and hurt anybody during the accident. Even though it is a very expensive lesson to learn from, at least you can still live to amend that mistake. I see it as something worth smiling about.

Can you highlight which part of my comment that I encourage reckless driving and ramming (Oh by the way, it’s rammed; not ramp)to an innocent person? The fact he survived and he didn’t hurt anyone is something really worth smiling about. I acknowledge that the accident is a serious situation, but it is still worth smiling to know you are well and alive. I don’t see any fault in that. I don’t believe that people should not be allowed to smile at serious situations; why should he be criticized for looking happy?
Then again, I’m glad you pointed out that I didn’t clarify to say that it is only valid for certain situations. I certainly wouldn’t laugh and smile if I killed someone in a motor vehicle accident; I would be full of remorse and guilt. That’s why I drive with care (for 7 to 8 years now) with only one major accident that fortunately caused no injuries and casualties. Even though it caused me a lot of money to learn that lesson, I’m glad no one is hurt or dead. I didn’t smile back then, I was frightened; but now I think about it, it is worth smiling now to know that that person and I weren’t hurt at the accident. Unlike two people I know, they lost their lives in a car accident and everyone cried.
So, you have my thanks for pointing out the lack of clarity in my comment.
If you don’t drive carefully… buy more insurance … huhuhuhu…. :-p

To say that you should’ve died in the next post is a very irresponsible thing to do.
Many people who have suffered from terminal illness, like cancer, multiple sclerosis are struggling to live every day and pray that God will just extend their “countdown” for just one more day.
You survived a car crash, which means that you were given another chance.
Despite having so many car accidents in the pass, you have always come out okay. So you should be thankful for what you have.
Probably you can start by being a responsible driver. When the tragedy of killing someone or seriously injuring someone hits upon you, I can assure you that that’s the worst possible scene you’ll ever want to bring upon yourself.
You can never be able to forgive yourself for doing it, and you’ll bring that regret to the grave.
So don’t put yourself into that situation. There are innocent drivers on the road who count on responsible drivers to give them their lives.
the same thing happened to be b4 but the crash was not that bad it was on federal highway…felt like everything in slow motion n i was fully aware of what is happening…

I was in a bad car accident two months ago involving myself and two other cars.
Dunno about other people, but at the moment of impact, as Kenny said, it was like all in slow motion.
After that everything was a blur, the tow truck, my friend coming to pick me up, the police…because all that time I was still in shock.
When everthing else settled, all I could do was laugh and it freaked out my friends.
WHY?
I was in a bad car accident, why should I be laughing and smiling?
Because of the IMMENSE RELIEF I felt that NO ONE GOT HURT.
Accidents happen, no one wants them to happen, but it happened anyway. When lives are spared, isn’t it something to smile about?
Kenny please don’t be depressed la. Don’t be the crab in the bucket that, when it tries to escape, gets pulled down by all the other crabs. Only end up getting cooked. So cheer up mate. ^_^

So what if you come out smiling after a life threatening situation? It doesn’t prove that he does not regret the whole situation nor does it prove that he’s an uncaring, heartless person who doesn’t realise the gravity of the whole issue.
Of course its fortunate that no lives were lost, but its an ACCIDENT! Kenny did not crash ON PURPOSE. Nor did he drive fast so that he could CRASH ON PURPOSE and claim another’s life.
When ACCIDENTS happen, nobody in either party should be blamed (unless DUI lar). That’s why its called an accident, not DUB (Driving Untuk Bunuh)-dent.

hmmm…moral of the story is – don’t be stupid, slow down when it is raining. I think many people look up to you and you should not be taking the accident – caused by your reckless driving – like it was a joke. You could have killed other people. You are fortunate that you are not injured. Even more fortunate that you have nothing to carry in your conscience for injuring, maiming or even killing somebody else because of this accident, which you know can be prevented if you just did the right thing – slow down.
