Advocates and non-supporters of plastic surgery will always have differing views. Watch "I-want-a-famous-face" on MTV and you'll probably realise it's no big deal.

I'm one of the 95% who don't care if she lied or not about the plastic surgery. Who cares. You don't see other celebs owning up so why make Dawn the target?? In fact, what I want to know is (if it's true) who the plastic surgeon is because I think he did such a wonderful job on the transformation!!

Jeez... I don't get it. Why are people so hung up over plastic surgery and its alleged denial? Let me define 3 sorts of "wealth"... "material wealth" (money, which can be earned), "appearance wealth" (looks which you are born with and CANNOT change), and genetic wealth (genes for good stuff which will be passed on to your kids).

Plastic surgery is simply a method by which "material wealth" (which can be earned) can be converted to "appearance wealth" (which you are born with). Women and men have been doing the same thing to lesser degree for freaking millenia with makeup from red rocks to whitening cream. Artificial enhancement isn't new... Plastic surgery just makes it permanent and saves time on the dolling-up-before-outing bit. Remember, "genetic wealth" isn't affected at all for either makeup or plastic surgery. So that puts paid to the alledged "wrongness" of plastic surgery.

As for Dawn's alledged denial of having gone under the knife. So? Even if she lied, what consequence is there to the world? Why the heck are bloggers so hung up over it? The lie is minor! People aren't being killed by shock-and-awe weapons, entire governments aren't being toppled by illegal invasions based on utterly wrong WMD accusations. Its just one girl who's worst alledged sin is simply being insecure about her looks. This doesn't deserve contempt. It deserves sympathy.

Finally, we have to remember that previously, people born with "appearance wealth" used to have everything. Good lookers are scientifically proven to get off lighter at most jail sentences, have sex earlier, and be more successfully overall. Plastic surgery should then be seen as nothing sort of heavenly manna, a way of converting "material wealth" to "appearance wealth". You CAN EARN material wealth. You CANNOT EARN appearance wealth. Plastic surgery hence LEVELS the playing field, at least for 1 generation, and thus should be welcome by everyone who isn't born a natural model. Of course, in the next generation, "genetic wealth" plays a part and plastic surgery post-fuglies still have a high chance of fugly kids. Sorry folks, "Looks valid for only 1 life"... that is, until we can unlock genetic modification to turn "material wealth" into "genetic wealth". But that is another post, and another can of worms altogether.

Korean (also Asian, in case you dont know =) ) is one of the highest population in the world that had have plastic surgery b4. So what? Everytime I watched "Extreme MakeOver" I think the process was gross--blood, cutting.. But after that, the patient ended their plastic surgery with " I feel so much confident, prettier.." Look! you might probably say you can gain confident from somewhere.. but they are HAPPY!! =) Leave poor DY alone.. =)

i know plastic surgery is nothing nowadays but see, ppl so worked out about this issue is because this is not just an enhancement. enhancement is ok... transformation is erm, a bit too much. She's transformed herself from a pure chinese looking gal to an eurasian, pretty much like a white now. It's kinda unfair to compare her with A. Jolie or Nicole Kidman. They enhanced, she transformed. Compare her to MJ then. BTW, Dawn has a boob job too. And the other thing is that she's just a normal student... people are shock coz they thought only celebs go and do this kind of massive plastic surgery. Oh well, no matter what, she's going to be big. Singapore is just too small, people can feel the closeness with this gal, that's why people so pissed that they're cheated by her statments or looks.

Dawn Yang gave her not-so-bright self away by refusing to say anything, neither denying or admitting that she went under the knife.

Look at it from a logical point of view. Having a certain level of beauty naturally is definitely better and more marketable than attaining that level of beauty through surgery or some artificial means.

So, if her beauty is natural, she would probably not hesitate at all to make a bold statement that she did not go through plastic surgery, in an attempt to remove allegations of her going through surgery.

However she most probably DID do plastic surgery and refused to say anything because:
1. Admitting will probably earn her some detractors - people who have some problem against artificial beauty
2. Denying, a simple job of saying NO, would probably cost her her conscience.

Having said these, its easy to tell that she did undergo plastic surgery, and you don't even need an IQ of 90 or to compare pictures to find out.

Disclaimer - I have nothing against dawn yang. I'm just saying what think is true. You know, boh-liao-ness. :P

I beg to differ! I've been in similar situations before where I chose to keep silent thinking it's the best way. You see, if you say no, people will slam u more n call u a liar...they will argue till the cows come home. if you say yes, then you may not be telling the truth and simply letting them hear what they want to hear which isn't fair either. the issue on dawn is totally blown out of proportion. some reporters and lotsa people really have got nothing better to do than to read blogs the whole day & night and then start attacking bloggers like there's no tomorrow for them (i mean the attackers!). bloggers are people who are willing to share part of their lives (real or imaginery or otherwise or whatever!) with others. there should be respect for them instead of throwing insults etc at them. not happy with a blogger, just surf on to the next site. no one is forcing anyone to read any blogs...
and the media industry is benefitting from all these hype...from their newspapers/magazines sales...people just love a bit gossip, don't they?

i have nothing against dawn. but from her scary transformation in the pictures, i have something to say.

dawn, you got a new face to fit in with the unsuspecting beautiful crowd.

you need to remember you weren't always so beautiful and should eat some humble pie by-

1. not taking so many narcissistic shots and obviously trying to get attention (don't say that you didn't go out looking for fame and that it came to you when all your posts have a narcissistic shot of you to start it off)

2. stop showing off that you have so many beautiful friends

3. stop thinking people are jealous of you (when you were even worse off looking than them before)

4. not try to get into the spotlight because you don't deserve it in the first place

5. basically keep a low profile

6. not try to change your heritage and distance yourself even further away from your original self (besides you never rightfully belonged with the panasians, not when you dont even deserve a spot with the beautiful)

7. stop lying about so many aspects of your life in order to pretend to be some little miss perfect

then maybe, you can still peacefully half-live the lie that you are "naturally beautiful".

Overall the surgeon did a really good job cept her lips are a lil too stiff and her eyes aren't natural enough. Looks kinda stiff and plastic from certain views.

I am just intrigued by the fact that such major transformation could be done through plastic surgery. Totally 2 different idendity. Just imagine the amount of money that would cost.

Guess the only fear that most did not opt for such major reconstruction would be the side effects of the surgery which will eventually haunt you.

Therefore, I admire her courage but felt kinda pity for her that she did not consider the other scary side of the coin which will result from these surgery at a later stage. The scarriest would be breast implants. Salin or not, things will grow inside it which will make her feel sick without even suspecting her implants (if she had them done in the 1st place. I don't know.).

It's 100% obvious that she had a number of surgeries done. Nothing to be ashame of. Should just glamourously admit it instead of having so many strangers gossipping abt her on blogs and making her life miserable. The poor girl must be going through a lot of stress now which include fear and she's so young. Hope she can manage all these attention and face them with the courage of a mature woman and not as a girl who is hanging onto hopes (hoping that people will believe that she is 100% natural).

Moreover, Ms. Yang is not alone in Asia. Over the last five years, plastic surgery has become so popular among Asian men and women that it is hard to tell which body parts on people you meet are the real McCoy.

Therein lies the controversy. On its face, pun fully intended, plastic surgery is a personal choice, and no one except the patient him-/herself should make the call. However, there is a larger, more global issue at hand.

When I was an undergraduate (so many years ago), I read an article written by a Japanese-American who felt so pressured to fit into his mainly white community that he underwent surgery to look "more white." Years later, he saw the light and regretted it. The point of the article was that societal racism had informed him that only Anglo-Saxon features were considered good-looking, and sadly enough, he internalized that racism. The evidence to support this contention is pervasive. Look at the popular media: Virtually, every person advertised as good-looking is white. (Yes, media inclusiveness has improved significantly over the last 15 years in the United States, but there's still a long way to go.)

Hence, in this light, Ms. Yang's decision to undergo surgery becomes a broader question than just a rich girl's fancy. What is her epistomology about the concept of beauty? How well-rounded is her understanding of beauty?

If the answers to the questions above are not copasetic, then Ms. Yang might be another victim of societal racism. And if that's the case, chances are the thousands of plastic surgery cases that have taken place in Asia over the last few years are not personally informed choices either.
