Short Talk:

JoyceTheFairy is so nice, and Evan Lau is the best thing since soap and water. I'm only saying that because they sent me scanned copies of the KLue article I requested. Thanks!

Wood Yew Laik To Bai Som Bif?

Poor dude. He needs to get his money back from whoever made this sorry-ass signboard for him.

Poor signboard maker. He needs to seek out his primary school English teacher and ask for a tight slap across his face.

I don't think there's another signboard out there with more spelling mistakes than this one.

True, but the quality of our spelling is such that a certain 'Restoran Mee Yokre,' and countless 'Char Keow Teow,' stalls have prospered depsite (DOH!) obvious typos.

Posted by: plink at 22 August 2005 3:33 AM | Link to comment

Many signboard makers do not care. They just follow word for word or alphabet for alphabet of what the customer gives them.

Cute though...

anyway, great to see you all brightened up. ^_^

lol. you can find this almost everywhere in malaysia, not only on signboards, banners as well.

i went to this shopping mall last weekend, there's this banner written something like: "stock clearEnce, all stock MUST GO before Merdeka."

i was like.. MUST GO? go where??!!

bikin malu only. cis.

The ampersand sign links to the text in white, which I can't make out. But wholesale is definitely one word. I've seen worse though, on engrish.com

Quoting Anonymous:

I think that the phrase is pretty common (MUST GO).
I've seen it used many times in the US.

And obviously "must go" refers to the stock being sold, not literally going some where.

So it's not necessarily a mistake.

Hey Dude, "...& what" ? May be the sign maker realized he/she can't spell Lamp/button/groat.

E's comment cracks me up! I also thought about it, "& ...." What? What else you have?

BeiShi means Northern City in Mandarin.

Posted by: Beishi at 22 August 2005 2:40 PM | Link to comment

you'd be surprised, TV Smith posted a blog before about this one sign about English courses and IIANM it said "English Courses Avairable" LOL

Posted by: andy at 22 August 2005 2:44 PM | Link to comment

It might be the owner making the mistake....rather than the person making the sign, because he just put that the owner ask him to put only.

And the owner put it up althought the spelling is wrong.

Posted by: Rachel at 23 August 2005 1:09 AM | Link to comment

If ... you look down a little below the big signboard ... seemingly mistakes were not only made for the big signboard ... yet ... "RATAIL" has been imprinted on the second signboard just behind the bind.

On the other hand, was it my hallucination that i am actually catching " and all XXX beef " imprinted just below the chicken ... or was it rooster? Did ya see it ?

Yea it was "Allana Beef" that was taken off alright. I have no idea where Allana is. Sounds like a girl's name to me.

And I seriously have no idea what a chicken is doing on a signboard of a shop that sells BEEF.

It's good to know that there are people who care to correct language blunders. Some people think that it shouldn't be an issue as long as the communication is understood and message gets across. Hmm, I've come aclos engrish not light one and plonaun not light oso. I have to pause for awhile to figure out, not that I'm stupid or slow. "Your jeep is opened" and "Your zip no black", "eh, got new di-gees in town", "yo screem is dirty lah", "planet of de ap-pess", "lolengjo oi" - can anyone figure out what I mean? Can't help but laugh but doesn't mean we look down at them (snickerings...)
